The Challenge:

A global science-based company with 30,000 team members across the globe identified a need to support career building and promotion readiness for new roles. Rising stars from across the enterprise wanted to share knowledge and gain context on the different approaches utilized by their colleagues. The company wanted to focus on developing mentee capabilities and harnessing the experience of its mentor pool.

The Challenge

The company wanted to focus on developing mentee capabilities and harnessing the experience of its mentor pool.

Pollinate Approach

  • Program participants were recruited on a global scale for both mentee and mentor roles
  • A virtual mentoring program was designed to include a mentoring toolkit, communications plan, and evaluation metrics
  • A unique mentoring program intake and matching algorithm was designed with a focus on matching based on language, c-level difference, capabilities, functional knowledge, and geography
  • Employees were matched with mentors for the purpose of professional development and developing particular capabilities
  • The program has been in progress for 9 years and continues to evolve each year as the needs of the company change

Results

  • Virtual mentoring supported unique employee needs while helping the organization navigate challenges related to their global nature and continuous growth
  • Over 90% of mentees were matched with their top capability preference
  • The program has grown from 10 pairs in 2012 to over 600 pairs in 2021
  • Provided the organization with the opportunity to interact with key populations including high performers, future managers, and under-represented groups
  • Participants continue to rate their program experience highly with an average net promoter score of 90%
