Board Effectiveness and Mentorship Program

The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) is governed by a Council of both professional and public members. The Council and its committees make decisions related to registration requirements, standards of practice, continuing professional development and the professional conduct of registrants.

The Challenge

CRPO needed a structured way to strengthen Council effectiveness and support rapid knowledge transfer among professional and public Council members, especially as members serve fixed terms and must quickly understand complex governance responsibilities.

Our Solution

Pollinate worked with CRPO to create a comprehensive board effectiveness framework, including annual effectiveness surveys, committee meeting evaluations, competency tools, and governance review supports.

Pollinate also helped launch mentoring programs for Council and staff, focused on building regulatory knowledge, governance skills, committee effectiveness, and leadership capability.

The Results

CRPO established a clear framework for measuring and improving Council effectiveness over time.

The program achieved 100% participation in the annual survey, defined 19 desired competencies, assessed Council capability, and created targeted mentoring pathways to support ongoing development and knowledge transfer.

The program also assessed current council competence and developed pathways for future development including a bespoke mentoring program.
