Cross-Pollinate AI for Culture Transformation

Pollinate’s purpose is to bring people together to get important things done. Culture change requires patience and careful cross-pollination of people throughout an organization, so all perspectives can be heard and a strong internal network is built.

The Children’s Aid Society of the Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin is an organization that values children, and is respectful and sensitive to the diverse needs of the community they operate in. The organization is committed to:

delivering services to children which are sensitive to culture, language, and religion
providing a safe, permanent, stable, loving environment free from abuse, neglect, and exploitation
advocating for the necessary resources to meet children’s needs
achieving this mission in collaboration with community partners

The Challenge

The Children’s Aid Society of the Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin recently shifted their mandate to empowering community agencies operating within their region, to direct their own unique needs for care.

Pollinate partnered with CASDSM, their anti-oppression consultants and training organization to create and cross-pollinate these new values and leadership behaviours throughout the organization.

Pollinate Approach:

Conducted a design lab discovery exercise to understand the inherent challenges, engagement levels and the cultural index of the organization
Focused on cross-pollinating people across the whole agency by ensuring a variety of facilitated collaborations were held and were accessible to all stakeholders
Identified a diverse group of "culture champions" who helped to inform the initiative by offering healthy skepticism and front line intelligence
Implemented consensus based solutions through the deliberate cross-pollination of a newly formed parent counsel of agency clients and the board of directors

Highlights

Significant shift in culture was created within this organization, shifting to a collaborative focus.

Core leadership framework and infrastructure put in place that focuses on the core vision and universal values.

Stronger partnerships were created with stakeholders throughout their system including the parent council and neighbouring communities.

Results

A profile of desired leadership behaviour is now applied when hiring, delivering recognition, identifying areas for career development, and working with (guiding) partners outside the organization
Created an accessible common language for decision making which ensured that the CASDSM values are firmly part of the decision making process
After participating in this program, CASDSM staff were 23% more confident that the organization seeks and acts upon opinions and suggestions from employees, and felt 9% more strongly that decisions that affected them and their work were explained well
